Command, Character, and Community

Welcome to this digital archive.

To the world, my father, Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sanni, was an unyielding pillar of national defense—a frontline war veteran who commanded strategic naval vessels during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970) and stood fearlessly to protect our country's territorial integrity. He was a disciplined, no-nonsense officer whose tactical brilliance earned him the highly exalted title of “OTASE of Ebiraland,” signifying military invincibility.

But to me, he was simply Dad.

Growing up under his roof, I had the unique privilege of seeing the human being behind the decorated uniform. Beyond the strict military posture was a man of profound warmth, exceptional joy, and an infectious sense of humor that could instantly fill a room with laughter. He proved to our family every single day that true strength does not require a cold heart, and that absolute authority can coexist beautifully with deep empathy and joy.

As an entrepreneur, the values my father embodied have become the foundational bedrock of my own professional journey. Business, much like naval command, requires strategic clarity, unwavering resilience through volatile seasons, and an absolute commitment to protecting and steering the people under your charge. When he retired from active military service, he did not rest. Instead, he deployed those exact leadership principles directly into community building in his hometown of Ihima, quietly working to build infrastructure for peace, security, and local prosperity.

With pride, gratitude, and love,
Fausat Sanni-Yusuf
